If elected, Roberts said in his statement he hopes to fight tort reform, having been paralyzed from the ribs down after a 2010 medical procedure.

“The laws of tort reform have prevented me from even taking my case to court for compensation even though my medical harm is self-evident,” he said in the statement, mentioning that preventable medical errors are the third-leading cause of death in the nation.

“That’s not right,” Roberts said, adding that the issue serves an example of the national lawmakers’ inefficacy.
